The Centre of Excellence in-person workshops combine theoretical content with hands-on skills stations, providing the learner with an opportunity to translate new pediatric knowledge into practice.
The in-person workshops will provide frontline staff
The Centre of Excellence in-person workshops combine theoretical content with hands-on skills stations, providing the learner with an opportunity to translate new pediatric knowledge into practice.
The in-person workshops will provide frontline staff with the following:
Hands-on practice using pediatric-size training mannikins, to build knowledge and skills for pediatric care.
Current pediatric best practices, and helpful tips and tricks.
An open learning environment with opportunities to ask questions, connect with other community providers, and share experiences.
An engaging and wholesome learning experience. These competency-based workshops will prepare health care providers with the knowledge and skills required to care for children in the community.
Learning objectives:
NG Tubes
Introduction to enteral feeding
Review indications for NG Tubes
Demonstrate appropriate technique for NG tube insertion.
Review placement verification of NG tubes
Discuss care of child with NG tube
Review administration of enteral feeds and medications
Gastrostomy Tubes
Introduction to gastrostomy tubes
Review indications and goals for gastrostomy tubes
Discuss management of common stoma issues
Demonstrate management of dislodged/blocked tubes
Discuss care of children with a gastrostomy tube
Review administration of nutritional formula and medications
Vascular Access Devices
Identify different types of vascular access devices.
Review care and management of CVADs including principles of aseptic technique to prevent CLABSIs.
Review CVAD line patency assessment and flushing.
Demonstrate proper technique for CVAD dressing changes.
Demonstrate proper technique for CVAD cap changes.
