NG Tubes

• Introduction to enteral feeding
• Review indications for NG Tubes
• Demonstrate appropriate technique for NG tube insertion.
• Review placement verification of NG tubes
• Discuss care of child with NG tube
• Review administration of enteral feeds and medications

Gastrostomy Tubes

• Introduction to gastrostomy tubes
• Review indications and goals for gastrostomy tubes
• Discuss management of common stoma issues
• Demonstrate management of dislodged/blocked tubes
• Discuss care of children with a gastrostomy tube
• Review administration of nutritional formula and medications

1300 - 1600 Module 2: Vascular Access Devices

Vascular Access Devices

• Identify different types of vascular access devices.
• Review care and management of CVADs including principles of aseptic technique to prevent CLABSIs.
• Review CVAD line patency assessment and flushing.
• Demonstrate proper technique for CVAD dressing changes.
• Demonstrate proper technique for CVAD cap changes.

Day 1: 0900 – 1600 

Leanring objectives:

Tracheostomy – Management and Care 

• Review the anatomy and physiology of a child’s respiratory tract 
• Identify indications for a tracheostomy 
• Demonstrate proper care of a patient with a tracheostomy tube 
• Demonstrated a tracheostomy tube change 
• Review proper cleaning of tracheostomy tubes and equipment

Invasive Home Ventilation – Management and Care 

• Review relevant anatomy and physiology 
• Review basic concepts of ventilation 
• Explore humidity through invasive ventilation 
• Demonstrate the correct set-up of a mechanical ventilator 
• Demonstrate appropriate patient care through simulations
